Ah Singapore, one of the more popular hot and humid countries which Sri Lankans love to travel to. Going to Singapore during the holidays is a pretty standard thing to do for most people. However, do you know that there are a number of FREE ways to spend your time there? Here are 10 of our best FREE things to do in Singapore:
1. Changi Airport;
OK so its not exactly free since you need to pay an airticket to get in. However, if you have a few hours before you leave there’s a few things to do- hook up into the free WIFI, relax at a TV lounge, watch a movie, wander around the various gardens in the terminals and even play a few games on multiple consoles such as Playstation, XBOX or just play computer games. If you’ve got in excess of 5 hours, book a free city tour.

2. FREE Festivals:
Singapore offers a number of free festivals almost all year around. Some are free, while others will require you to spend a little. That being said, check out some of the celebrations which are lined up according to Yoursingapore, in the last few months of 2015 you ought to expect Deepavali celebrations in Little India, Christmas celebrations on Orchard Road as well as ZoukOut, a mega music festival which will be held in December. Have a look!
3. The Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay
The outdoor gardens in Bay South is a great spot for people to drop by. Its a very peaceful place with a lot of views. There are a number of supertrees (see image) which glow in rhythm to well known music between 7.45 and 8.45 every single day. The best part? All of this is free! Just a note-you’ll need to spend a little more to get into the treetop walkway as well as the conservatories, but the views are great all the same!

4. Wander around the tombs at Bukit Brown Cemetery :
Yes, we did say cemetery. Bukit Brown used to be cemetery, but has now changed into a heritage site which is well known for birds and local wildlife. If you have some time, check them out online and join a free walking tour of the cemetery, which is available on certain dates.
5. Pose with a Merlion:
When you think of a visual representation of Singapore, the Merlion (half mermaid, half lion) is probably the first thing which comes to mind. You don’t need to go all the way to Sentosa Island for this, just head over towards Marina Bay. TIP: If you are a fan of achitecture, pop by the Fullerton Bay and Fullerton hotel if you have a little time.

6. Fan of classical music? Listen to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO)
The SSO conducts a number of free concerts at numerous tertiary education venues, the Racecourse in Singapore as well the ever popular Botanic Gardens. The concerts conducted at the Botanic Gardens are sure to take your breath away. We suggest that you come a little early and bring a seat… or picnic blanket.
7. Wanna visit a theme park for free? Head over to Haw Par Villa
If you’re fond of the weird and wacky, head over to Haw Par Villa; they have constructed 150+ dioramas (3D model scenes) which depict certain scenes from Chinese mythology-some of these also include comically depictions of hell.
8. Fan of hiking? Challenge yourself with MacRitchie Reservoir’s Treetop Walk & Southern Ridges trail
For those who like wildlife, we have two good pics for you: MacRitchie Reservoir Park is the place to be if you want to go for an 8km hike to the Treetop walk. This involves climbing a 250m suspension bridge which has a gorgeous view at the top. In addition to this, the Southern Ridges trail is a highly impressive walking trail of 10km which spans through the forest and crosses the Henderson waves, which is Singapore’s highest pedestrian bridge.
